Holiday Card Project 2012

It's back!  With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out to patients.
The idea behind the Holiday Card Project is simple: do something nice for others. However, if you're looking for even more incentive, every deviant who submits a card will be given a free one-month Premium Membership to deviant

Frequently Asked Questions
Now listen up, I learned all of this from reading tutorials on the internet, so there's no reason why you shouldn't do the same! That's what you do when you want to learn a new skill, you read about it! So instead of being asked, here is some reading to do. Now READ IT!! Also, tutorials for BJD face ups apply to plastic/vinyl dolls most of the time, so you can read about both of them.
What do you use to remove the makeup?
I use Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner I'm sure there are fine alternatives. Some people use nail polish remover-I tried it once a

HEAVY METAL - DeviantART issue
Okay... We played a little last year about doing a collaboration between Heavy Metal and DeviantART.  We got some guys on the back covers, we got a few articles in the mag, but we need to step up the game a little.

It is so hard to get your work published these days and thank god Kevin
Eastman understands that.  So having put together some special issues of
Heavy Metal recently I pitched Kevin on forgetting the idea of a few
DeviantART pin-ups or a gallery...

Instead we'll do an entire issue of Heavy Metal from the DeviantART community.  Yup, 100 pages of dA goodness wrapped in slick glossy paper.  We're going to aim for an issue as soon as possible next year.  The page rates are $75 per page (all in including lettering), yes it is really low and that

Acts of Creation Part 3
Editor, Managing Editor, Editor In Chief, Publisher.
Different titles for different jobs, but they overlap and it's where they overlap the trouble normally comes.
I know this is a community of artists but it doesn't hurt to understand who the people are that you are approaching for work.  What follows is a brief description of what each normally have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. This is by no means a complete list of their duties but are usually at the core.
EDITOR – Overall they are responsible for keeping the book on a timely track while balancing the editorial requirements of the company and the abilities and desires of the creative teams.
MANAGING EDITOR – These guys watch the editors and are usually responsible for their performance while at the same time having responsibilities of their own.
EDITOR IN CHIEF – This is the person who usually deals directly with the publisher. Their responsibilities lie primarily with making sure the above do their jo

Acts of Creation Part 4
WHY ARE SALES SO LOW WHEN THEY'RE MAKING SO MANY COMIC BOOK MOVIES?
By Dave Elliott
Another in a series of mind boggling trips into the inner workings of the industry OR I bet you thought it was going to be more fun than this.
Part One
There is often talk of cycles in comics, how readers turn over every 3/4/5/25 years, booms and busts, everyone is leaving for Hollywood, kids don't read comics because of video games…
Do you know how many are true?
Probably all of them.  Twenty-odd years ago, it was the established fact that the majority of comic book readers came and went in three years.  Most of the market wasn't around long enough to even notice that certain characters came back time after time.
The comic book industry has had its own share of recessions.  Had its fair share of booms too.  Maybe more than its fair share, fighting against nature some might say.
Hollywood has always courted the industry.  Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas

DA volume 1 - DeviantART anthology
DISCLAIMER #1!: This is not an official DeviantART project and DeviantART will not be involved in making selections or in processing any royalty payments.
I have always loved anthologies.  Growing up in Britain 95 percent of the comics were weekly anthologies so it has been firmly ingrained in my psyche.
I've always felt that anthologies are a good platform for experimentation, trying new ideas and styles, introducing new talent and especially good to read in the bathroom.  I'll never forget the impression Heavy Metal had on me when I first saw it.
They're perfect for those moments when you've read through the 100 comics you've bought that month and realized there wasn't a single complete story in the pile.  ;-)
I've recently relaunched two previously successful anthologies, A1 and MONSTER MASSACRE.

I have also been enjoy

Appropriately given it's halloween, the Dead Roots anthology - which I did art for a story in -  is available on iTunes today! Pick it up  here !

It's a gorgeous anthology, w/ some wonderfully human stories and a lot of great creators involved. If you like it, we'd so love it if you'd post around or leave a review to support all the creators involved <3
